Strange Great Blue Heron
Strange Great Blue Heron:
"I have been a nature photographer for 20 years. I have photographed thousands of Great Blue Herons and have never seen this kind of behavior from any bird like this. This bird displayed like this for about 20 minutes and made a sound like a baby crying. It saw me and went to a normal folding of the wings and flew off.

Report: young adults most clueless about Digital TV switch: "As the Federal Communications Commission revs up efforts to promote the impending digital TV transition, a new report suggests that the overwhelming majority of Americans will sail smoothly through the switch. The Nielsen Company's new Overview of Digital Readiness classifies 9.4 percent of US households as 'Completely Unready' for February 17, 2009—the last day of analog broadcasting for full power TV. Some may be surprised to learn that young adults make up a big portion of that percentage."

Raining animals
Raining animals
"The animals most likely to drop from the sky in a rainfall are fish and frogs, with birds coming third. Sometimes the animals survive the fall, especially fish, suggesting a small time gap between the extraction and the actual drop. Several witnesses of raining frogs describe the animals as startled, though healthy, and exhibiting relatively normal behavior shortly after the event. In some incidents, however, the animals are frozen to death or even completely encased in ice."

The Mild-Altering Role of Incense in Religion
The Mild-Altering Role of Incense in Religion | LiveScience: "Incense might be symbolic in religious ceremonies, but it has also, perhaps not so coincidentally, played a role in gathering the faithful into the fold. A team of international neuroscientists has just announced that a component of the resin made from Boswellia trees, more commonly called Frankincense (yes, the same stuff brought to baby Jesus by the Three Kings), biochemically relieves anxiety in mice, and presumably people.

Seriously. I do believe his last appearance in cinemas was in The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas -- but don't judge the man based on that. Hollywood has very little use for very old comedians, regardless of how talented they are."

Town refuses occupancy permit for another unmarried couple:
"Another unmarried couple is being told by a suburban St. Louis town they’re not welcome.
A man, his girlfriend and her three children recently bought a house in Black Jack in north St. Louis County. But because Toi Pruitt and Joe Pulliam and the children don’t meet the town’s definition of a family, they couldn’t get an occupancy permit.

The new ordinance allows unmarried couples as long as the children are related to both. None of the children are related to Pulliam."

Women Have a Better Memory for Faces and Words
Women Have a Better Memory for Faces and Words: Scientific American:
"Men are not as good at recalling personal experienes
By Nicole Branan
Do women remember better than men do? Research shows that females may have an advantage when it comes to episodic memory, a type of long-term memory based on personal experiences. A Swedish team of psychologists showed, for example, that women are better on average than men at remembering faces, particularly female faces. These findings may have an evolutionary explanation that is rooted in female-female competition, says David C. Geary, a psychologist at the University of Missouri–Columbia who was not involved with the study. “Women certainly fought and continue to fight over the best guys ... those with good genes and resources to invest in kids,” Geary says. Remembering details of personal experiences is important for monitoring and maneuvering relationships, including disrupting the social and romantic ties of other women who are competitors, he says. Previous studies have shown that women also have a superior memory for verbal information, which they may use to dissect a person’s underlying motives or intentions—a skill that, according to Geary, “seems to elude many men.”"
